Letná Carousel
Historical Attraction with Horse and Car Rides
The Letná Carousel is one of the oldest preserved floor carousels in Europe and has been in Letná Park since 1894. The interior of the Letná Carousel, along with the horses, refers to noble entertainment from the 17th and 18th centuries, known as the carrousel. The original equipment of the carousel, which has undergone renovation, has been preserved. The carousel is a unique attraction thanks to the horse figures, which are covered with real horsehide. The horses are stuffed with straw, covered with jute, have wooden frames, heads, and hooves, and have glass eyes. Three knight figures, standing on the central column of the carousel, are made of papier-mâché and covered with metal leaf. The carousel's platform with attractions is mounted on a rotating column. The carousel's drive mechanism is housed in a brick space under the floor. The original human power used in Královské Vinohrady was replaced by an engine at Letná. The orchestrion did not survive, so the National Technical Museum acquired an Atlantic orchestrion for the carousel, made in 1910 in Leipzig. The cars are new and their design was inspired by the Aero 30 vehicles.
